The Joy Writers' Ministry is a Christian pen pal organization solely for the purpose of providing prisoners with Christian pen pals or inspirational reading material via our newsletter. Our mission is to communicate the good news of the Bible to men and women in prison so that they will be strengthened in their faith, encouraged, and helped to stand true to God and remain strong in Him.

We love prisoners dearly and sincerely sympathize with inmates who desire to receive mail. We put the requests onto a list for a potential pen pal but, because of the amount of mail that we receive and our limited amount of writers, we may not be able to supply you with a pen pal. However you can request our newsletter by signing up here. It is a bi-monthly publication.

We are a non-profit organization; therefore we cannot provide *monetary funds or legal aid to prisoners. We do not provide spaces for personal ads in our newsletter, we are not single Christians looking for partners, and we do not have a website to which you can post information. We will put your letter into the stack for potential pen pals. Most of our pen pals are happily married individuals and are not looking for partners.

Prisons are where society tries to lock up problems. Check the current statistics. There are an estimated 2,407,134 people in U.S. prisons and jails. Will we just continue to lock people up until more are behind bars than not? Will those of us in the free world continue to pay and pay and pay to house more and more criminals? Where will it stop? Will it ever end? It can.

Statistics have proven that prisoners who received religious instruction and council while in prison have a lower rate of recidivism (return to crime) than those who had no such instruction. We have found that when people have a sense of worth and a feeling of purpose for their lives, they will naturally begin to work toward fulfilling it. All they need is a chance.
